The American Dream

Journaling:

Independence Day is a big deal in our family. Almost as big as Christmas. The kids start talking about it as soon as spring comes and the promise of warm weather whispers in the air. They look forward to it, counting the days down. The morning begins early, earlier than the sun, as we dress, piling into the car in the pre-dawn light for the drive down to the premiere events of the day. The Freedom Festival Balloon Launch is the high point. The air is cool enough to enjoy, and though popular, there is still room for personal reflection, pondering the importance of the day. As the flag is raised and the wave of voices recite the beloved “Pledge of Allegience” my heart always swells and my eyes tear. I see tears in your eyes, too. Surrounded by family and friends, who then head up to the canyon where we make breakfast and greet more family and talk, and talk, and talk. The stream burbles, the leaves rustle in the breeze and the spirit of the day envelopes us. We are free. We can worship as we choose. We have opportunities above and beyond. We live and breathe the American Dream.

I am so looking forward to the 4th of July. I can't wait to be with my family (all of them), and feel the spirit of the day....I really can't wait. It's been fun to scrap these pictures (finally!!!) after three years. It was also a thrill to have the bracket finally installed by my own handyman husband on our home, and fly our flag there for the first time on Flag Day June 14.

These were both made with this amazing new kit by One Memory At A Time called Yankee Doodle found here: http://www.godigitalscrapbooking.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_dnld_info&products_id=2266

It's coming!!! The 4th of July will be here in 15 days!!!!
